The history of the Ukrainian Brain Bee spans over 10 years. During this time, we have been able to participate in the International Brain Bee five times, initiated a unique free online course in neuroscience, created a free lecture course, and an online Encyclopedia of the Brain. Every year, we support the best brains of Ukraine with useful souvenirs and prizes. We are assisted in this by partners and sponsors:
- In 2012, the Ukrainian Brain Bee started with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
- Since 2013 we have been supported by the governmental Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
- Also in 2013, our competition was supported by Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
- In 2015 we organized a crowdfunding campaign to participate in IBB in Australia - we successfully gathered half of the necessary amount of money, and the rest was covered by the organizers (the detailed financial report is available in Ukrainian).
- In 2016-2019, we received partial financial support from the Society for Neuroscience (the grant for the Kyiv Chapter).
- In 2017-2023, UBB was supported by the FENS and DANA Foundation (grant for Brain Awareness Week).
- In 2018, the "STEM-girls" initiative supported us financially (travel grant for national champion Lada Isakova).
- In 2019, we received a grant from the Shevchenko Scientific Society (USA).
- In 2020-2021, national coordinator, Dr. Andrii Cherninskyi received the Global Engagement Seed Grant from the International Brain Research Organization, which allowed him to create the online Brain Encyclopedia and substantially improve the online course in neuroscience.
The study of the nervous system is one of the major directions in modern biology and science as a whole. We believe that sparking students' interest in neuroscience will contribute to the formation of a new generation of Ukrainian scientists, whose achievements will bring glory to our homeland.
